Client that manufactures personal care products is looking for a cross functional Production Team Leader, more specifically with the knowledge and experience of managing Artisans, and Process Controllers & Process Operators.
This position requires the potential to understand the Mechanical aspect of the production line and the coaching and leading of a team.
The candidate is required to focus a lot on output as well as the Team.
 
The intricacies of this role have very specific products and specs that are changing.
 
Each leader will have production employees who are on a shift rotation and some on straight day shift.
 
Team leaders will report directly to the Production Manager. Responsible for planning, controlling and leading production within specific production areas, conducting auditing, quality control and control of packaging and raw materials. Responsible for the requisitioning, printing, and control of labels as and when required. Providing a printing service using the Label Matrix System to all relevant production departments.
 
Key Performance Areas:
    • Team Leading – communicating effectively and encouraging communication with the team, as well as managing the performance of individual team members.
    • Planning shift production to meet weekly production plan, and ensuring all required materials are available before starting production.
    • Ensures GMP conditions are maintained, with a particular focus on the equipment, processes and employees under his direct control.
    • Maintain ISO accreditation by ensuring adherence to the prescribed SOP/WI at all times.
    • Recording, investigating, and reporting all material and labour variances to the Production Manager Facilitator, and developing methods to reduce waste on an ongoing basis.
    • Responsible for the overall quality of all manufactured products.
 
Key Functions:
    • Material Control
    • Responsible for the ordering and receiving of material/components as per the daily/ weekly production plan.
    • Controlling of material usage variances, i.e., input vs output.
    • Returning of all unused material to Raw Material Stores for credit.
    • Responsible for stock-count at the end of the month.
    • Communicate effectively with shift production teams on all issues, and liaise regularly with the planning, maintenance, and quality department managers. Manage team performance on an hourly basis.
    • Evaluating weekly production plan and ensuring that sufficient raw materials are ordered to enable shift production volumes to meet the planned demand.
    • Plan all end-of-run changeovers to make the most efficient use of machinery and resources.
    • Perform in-process quality checks at defined frequencies, ensuring that the product surpasses the minimum required quality levels. Report all deviances from acceptable standards immediately and take appropriate action to quarantine suspect stock and rectify the problems.
    • Ensure that all personnel under direct control, as well as all other persons entering the factory area, maintain GMP conditions.
    • Maintain attendance records for all personnel and enforce attendance and timekeeping standards.
    • Record and report all problems experienced on the production line. Lead investigations into problem-solving and follow through until problems are resolved.
    • Control discipline within direct area of responsibility. Convene hearings and apply discipline for minor offenses and report serious offenses to the Production manager for action.   
    • Continuously monitor and evaluate employee performance using prescribed SIC. Manage poor performance and initiate additional training and/or counseling as required.
    • Record and investigate all materials and labour variances daily. Develop methods to reduce all wastage within areas under direct control.
    • Authorizes the release of the finished product for shipping, i.e., signing off shipping tickets.
    • Issues IPRS/PMCC to the production line.
    • Ensures that a stock of blank labels and ribbon is always available to fulfill relevant printing requirements.
    • Ensures that the Barcode Verifier is calibrated as per the relevant work instruction.
    • Ensures that the master sample file is kept up to date concerning new labels that are designed.
    • Ensures that the completed requisitions are timeously sent to Raw Material Stores for data capture.
    • Maintains and keeps a safe and neat working environment.
    • Plans the day’s tasks such that label requisitions are timeously completed.
    • Ensure good housekeeping principles of delegated area, equipment, materials, and products including defined process flows.  
 
Requirements – skills, education, experience, and specific competencies:
✓ Must have Matric.
✓ Must have tertiary qualification in Mechanical/Chemical/Industrial Engineering/Production/Operations Management or related discipline.
Minimum of 5 years of Manufacturing/Production line experience in a Team Leader/Production Management role.
Relevant experience working in a continuous improvement initiative i.e. LEAN, TPM,WCM.
Knowledge of Preventative and Autonomous maintenance systems and practices.
Knowledge of Production management systems and practices (efficiency, waste, production planning, labour planning and utilization).
✓ Knowledge of people management processes and practices (building effective teams).
✓ Knowledge of HSE and Quality management systems and practices.
✓ Willingness to work 45/48-hour work week shift patterns as defined by the shift pattern. May be required to work overtime as and when the need arises.
 
Salary: +/- R35-40k negotiable per month
Location: Pinetown
